CTR decoupling
Clicks are falling, but your position is not
When a page keeps its impressions and its position and still loses clicks, that points more to the results page than to your ranking. Lastmod reports the pattern; it does not claim a cause.
What the problem is
Rankings and clicks usually move together. When they part, the page is being shown as often and in the same place, but fewer people open it. A featured snippet, an AI answer, a new search feature or a competitor's sharper title can all do that.
Lastmod can see that the pattern exists, because it compares your own numbers. It cannot see the results page of each searcher, so it will not tell you that one specific feature is taking your clicks. It tells you where to look.

- What's going on
- Impressions and position held, but the click-through rate fell from 4.1% to 2.0% in the last 7 days.
- What to do
- Check the results page for a featured snippet or an AI answer, and consider a title that gives a reason to click.
- Evidence
- Impressions 97% of the baseline
- Position 5.1, was 4.9
- Click-through rate 2.0%, was 4.1%

How Lastmod finds it
Impressions stay at 90% or more of the earlier level, position gets no more than 0.5 places worse, and click-through drops by 40% or more. Compared: the last 7 days against a 28-day baseline.

Google Search Console
What you do
Open the task
It shows the page, its impressions and position against the baseline, and the click-through rate then and now.
Search for the page's main query yourself
Look at what sits above and around your result: a snippet, an AI answer, other features. Then read your own title as a searcher would.
Change what you can control, and mark it done
Often that is the title or the description. Lastmod looks for the new text on your page and measures the clicks that follow. If the cause was outside your page, the result may show little, and that is also an answer.
How the result is measured
Measuring needs a working Search Console connection; without its data there is no baseline to compare against, so a task made without it gets its implementation checked, not its clicks. About 30 minutes after you mark the task done, Lastmod fetches the page and looks for your new text, and says so when it can't check. It then follows daily clicks for 21 days against the 28 days before, and waits 3 days for Search Console data to settle. The result says how reliable the measurement is; with fewer than 400 impressions in the baseline the answer is “not enough data”, never a percentage. A result is not proof that the change caused it.
