AI assistants
Ask your AI assistant about your Lastmod data
Connect Claude, ChatGPT or a developer tool to your Lastmod account. The assistant can read your websites, opportunities, tasks and results. It can't change anything.
Before you start
- You are an owner or admin
- Only an owner or an admin of the organisation can allow a connection or create an API key.
- Your plan includes external access
- External access is part of Starter, Pro, and Agency. It isn't part of the free trial.
- The assistant only reads
- It can look things up. It can't edit your website, your tasks or your account.
The Lastmod address
Both ways below use the same address. Copy it exactly as written.
https://api.lastmod.ai/mcpIn a chat app, such as Claude or ChatGPT
This works in claude.ai, Claude Desktop, the Claude mobile app and ChatGPT connectors. You sign in with your Lastmod account, so you don't need an API key.
Add a custom connector
Open the connector settings of your chat app and add a custom connector. Paste the MCP URL when it asks for an address. Whether your chat plan allows custom connectors is up to the chat app, not Lastmod.
Sign in to Lastmod
Your browser opens a Lastmod page. Sign in with your Lastmod account if it asks you to.
Choose the organisation
Pick the organisation to connect. Only organisations where you are an owner or admin are listed, and only those whose plan includes external access can be chosen.
Choose the access
Allow all websites or just one. You can only give access to websites you can open yourself.
Check and allow
Check the name of the app and the address you are sent back to, then choose Allow. If you didn't start this connection yourself, choose Deny.
The connection now shows in Organization settings, in the API keys card, as a connected app.
In a developer tool, such as Claude Code or Cursor
These tools send a fixed header with every request. You use an API key from Lastmod instead of signing in.
Create an API key
In Organization settings, open the API keys card and choose Create API key. Give it a name, choose the access and how long it stays valid, and copy it. Lastmod shows the key only once.
Add Lastmod as an MCP server
Add an MCP server of the HTTP type with the MCP URL, and send the key in the Authorization header as a Bearer token. The examples below show how in Claude Code and in Cursor.
Try it
Ask the assistant to list your websites. If it answers with your domains, the connection works.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http lastmod https://api.lastmod.ai/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer lm_…"Cursor, in mcp.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"lastmod": {
"url": "https://api.lastmod.ai/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${env:LASTMOD_API_KEY}"
}
}
}
}The key stays out of the file. Cursor reads it from the environment variable LASTMOD_API_KEY, so set that variable to your key before you start Cursor, and never type the key into mcp.json.
Replace lm_… in the Claude Code command with your own key. Keep it out of shared files and public code.
What the assistant can look up
You don't pick these yourself. Ask your question in your own words and the assistant looks up what it needs.
- Your websites
- Which websites it can see, with their domain and language, whether Search Console is connected and how the latest crawl went.
- Opportunities
- What Lastmod found to improve, on which page, how much it matters and how much work it is, with the reason, the recommended action and how sure Lastmod is. You can filter on status or type.
- One opportunity in detail
- The evidence Lastmod saved when it found the opportunity and, once it is resolved, how and when.
- Tasks
- Your tasks with the reason, the expected impact, the status, the page, the progress through the steps and the state of the measurement.
- Measured results
- What was measured after a finished task: the figure before and after, and how reliable the measurement is. A result sits next to other changes. It is not proof of a cause.
- Dashboard figures
- The figures of a website for a period, as on your dashboard.
- Search performance over time
- Clicks, impressions, click-through rate and position from Search Console, with markers for the changes you made. A marker shows when a change was made, not that it caused the movement.
Disconnect an assistant
Open Organization settings and the API keys card. Connected apps and API keys are in the same list. Choose Revoke on the one you want to stop. It stops working right away, and a connected app can be connected again later.
A connection also ends by itself after at most 365 days, and when the person who allowed it leaves the organisation or is no longer an owner or admin. Connect again to continue.
Good to know
What an assistant does with the answers it gets is covered by the terms of that assistant, not by Lastmod. Read them before you connect the website of a client.
