Who does what
Lastmod finds and measures. You change your site.
How Lastmod works for your SEO and AI visibility: four steps, from the first finding to the measured result. At each one you can see what Lastmod does, what you do and where AI is involved.
Review
Know what deserves attention.
- Lastmod does
- Crawls your site every 7 days, with your most important pages every time and pages that do not change less often, and syncs Search Console data every day. Checks both against fixed rules, then ranks what matches by expected impact, how sure Lastmod is and how much work the fix takes.
- You do
- Read the reasoning and the evidence, and decide whether an opportunity is worth a task.
- AI's part
- Explains a finding in plain words. It doesn't decide what counts as an issue: fixed rules do.

Execute
Make the change yourself.
- Lastmod does
- Turns the opportunity into a task: what to change, on which page and why, with the evidence next to it.
- You do
- Make the change on your own site, then mark the task as done and enter the new text. Lastmod never edits your site.
- AI's part
- Drafts suggested text, such as a new title, for you to use or change.

- This page ranks at position 6.4 and gets seen, but only 1.2% of searchers click. The title may not give them a reason to.

Measure
Let the data settle.
- Lastmod does
- About 30 minutes after you mark the task done, looks for your new text on the page, and says so when it can't check. Then compares search clicks from the 28 days before with the days after. The window depends on the change: 21 for a title or meta description, 28 for a canonical, 56 for an internal link, plus 3 days for Search Console data to settle.
- You do
- Wait. Nothing needs doing until the window has ended and the data has settled.
- AI's part
- Not involved. The page check and the comparison of clicks are calculations.

Result
Read what happened.
- Lastmod does
- Reports the change in clicks per day with how reliable the measurement is and flags for what else could explain it. With too little traffic it says there isn't enough data, instead of showing a percentage.
- You do
- Decide what to do next. A result compares two periods; it doesn't show that your change caused the difference.
- AI's part
- Can put the result in plain words. The figures, the band and the flags are calculated, not written by AI.

A change in clicks doesn't prove causation
This compares two periods. It doesn't show that your change caused the difference: seasonality, demand and other factors can also move clicks, and Lastmod doesn't correct for them.
How AI assistants deal with your website
Next to the loop, Lastmod shows two things about AI assistants. Both are context: they show what happened, not why.
- Mentions in AI answers
- You approve questions people might ask about what you offer. Lastmod asks ChatGPT and Google AI Mode those questions a few times a week and counts how often they mention your website or use it as a source. How many questions you follow depends on your plan.
- Visits from AI assistants
- If you connect Google Analytics 4 (optional, read-only), Lastmod shows per page how many sessions came from AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity. Below 10 sessions it says there are too few to show a number.
- A sample, not a reason
- AI answers vary. Lastmod asks two assistants without an account or chat history, so it is a sample. Neither figure says why a number goes up or down, or that a change you made caused it.
Where AI is used, and where it isn't
AI helps with words. It doesn't decide what is an opportunity, and it never touches your site.
- Fixed rules find the opportunities
- Detection runs on rules you can read, against your own data. No AI model decides what counts as an issue.
- AI explains and drafts
- It explains a finding or a result in plain words and drafts suggested text. You decide what to use.
- You change the site
- Lastmod advises and measures. It never edits your site.
