Confounded result

A confounded result is a before-and-after change that something other than your edit could explain, such as another change on the same page or a site-wide shift.

A result is only as clear as the period it covers. If you change a page's title and its internal links in the same window, a rise in clicks can belong to either, and no number can separate them.

The honest response is to show the result with a flag instead of hiding it, and to keep it out of totals that add results up.

In Lastmod

Lastmod flags a second task on the same page in the window, a task you reopened, the CTR-decoupling pattern in the same period, and site-wide clicks moving the same way. Confounded results are shown and left out of the impact total.
