Search intent

Search intent is what a person is trying to get done with a query: to learn something, to find a specific site, to compare options, or to buy.

The same words can mean different things. Someone who searches for a product name may want reviews, a price, a manual or the shop. Search engines infer the intent from how people behave and show the kinds of pages that tend to satisfy it.

A page that answers another need than the one behind the query has little chance, however well it is written. A shop page rarely beats guides for a how-to query, and the other way round.

You can see the intent yourself by searching the query and looking at what the top results are: guides, product pages, lists, videos. Then read your own title and page as that searcher would.

In Lastmod

Lastmod does not classify search intent. Where a task concerns a page, it works from the search terms Google Search Console reports for that page; whether the page fits what those searchers want stays your judgement.
