Keyword cannibalization

Keyword cannibalization is when several pages of the same site compete for the same search terms, so search engines have to pick between them and clicks are spread out.

It is not always a problem. Two pages that serve different needs can both appear for one term. It becomes one when the pages are near duplicates, or when the page you want found keeps losing to a weaker one.

Typical fixes are to merge the pages, to point one clearly at a different need, or to link from the weaker page to the stronger. Which one fits depends on the pages.
