IndexNow

IndexNow is an open protocol that lets a site notify participating search engines straight away when a page is added, changed or removed, instead of waiting for them to crawl it.

A site sends the changed URL, and the engines that take part share it with each other. Bing is the best-known participant.

Google does not use IndexNow, so it does nothing for Google. It is a notification, not an edit: it asks engines to look again and does not decide what they do with the page.

In Lastmod

If you opt in, Lastmod notifies Bing and other search engines that use IndexNow after you mark a task done. It never edits your site.
